Wonderland feelings

Jökulsárlón

One of the most amazing place on The Earth, where I've ever been. The glacier lake is the place, where you really can see how Vatnajökull is melting. Little by little this huge giant is giving up.

This place is filled with memories. As the whole country.

Waterfalls

In Iceland one can see waterfalls almost everywhere, when you are driving around the country. It's amazing for a person like me, who is from the country, where we just don't have any waterfalls (nor mountains).

Here are the pictures of Skógafoss (my third favourite), Seljalandsfoss (second favourite waterfall) and Gullfoss. My camera damaged a bit after these waterfalls - it's not water resistant I noticed. :)

Storm around Vík

Vík is a small town in the south of Iceland, which is famous for it's black beach. You may recognise those stones from the sea - they've been seen in several films, TV-series and music videos. Though the story tells that they were actually two elves, which didn't hurry enough to reach the land before the sunrise..

Vík is also interesting town, because it lays just beside to a glacier called Mýrdallsjökull, which is hiding under its ice cap a volcano called Katla. Scientists are calculating that Katla should erupt pretty soon. Usually the Eyjafjallajökulls eruption (the one, which closed the Europe's aviation traffic) is a tricker for Katla. Though Katla's eruptions may cause big problems not only for Iceland and Europe, but for the rest of the world as well.

Svartifoss & Vatnajökull

Svartifoss (Black waterfall) is my favourite of waterfalls, the number one. It reminds me (and many others) of the Sibelius monument in Helsinki. Maybe the artist has visited this place. Who knows.

Svartifoss is in the Skaftafell's National Park, which is a part of Vatnajökull National Park. Vatnajökull, the biggest glacier in Europe.

Swimming

Swimming is probably the most popular hobby in Iceland. Though Icelandic people, they don't necessarily swim, but lay or sit in the hot tubs.

The oldest public swimming pool Seljavallalaug was founded in 1923. Though it has been officially closed already for years. It gets its water from the glaciers (cold) and from a hot spring the hot water. Temperature of the water is just perfect.

Reykjadalur is magical place, where you can swim in the warm river (even in the middle of the winter). It's a place, where hot river (+80 degrees) and a cold river merges and they form the perfect (again) temperature water for laying in the middle of amazing nature.

And of course there is also Blue Lagoon and a public swimming pool in every village.

And you don't alway get to these spots without making yourself dirty:

Even an overdose of Iceland wont be enough

Iceland is a country, where I left my heart 11 years ago. I've went back already two times: once again to work there and once with the short winter trip. The trip in March/ April was fourth one, when I put my feet on that volcanic ground.

The difference to the other trips is that now I didn't go back alone, but with J, who never been in Iceland. There were so many places, which I wanted to show him, but because of the lack of time and the time of the year, we just couldn't reach all the places. Next time then. I will show you some of the pictures here. There are going to be several posts from now on. If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer. I start the trip with you from the countryside and the South of Iceland, where we spent most of the time.

Enjoy!
