Birthday weekend

Dear friend had a great idea for her birthday. She decided to have a birthday celebration, which last for the whole weekend. Kind of like a tiny festival. 

It started with the Back To The Future screening in a Restaurant Adam's film evening and continued to the Saturday brunch at her place. Of course there were dozens of different kind of delicates to eat and drink. I think she might be the brunch queen of this city. I also realized how much I missed brunches! Thank you Tubbs, let's have a brunch soon again!

Christmas in pictures

 

I spent my Christmas in Lapland with my family. For the first time ever I spent it somewhere else than at my childhood home. It was different, but refreshing. 

I skied a lot: I don't remember, when was the last time I skied or have I ever skied 15 km in a row. There were also a really good smoked sauna and a  frozen stream to cool off. Btw, it's funny how the -18 °C doesn't feel bad at all, when you are sweating on your skies.

Farewell my big, hairy friends

This autumn is bringing a big change in my family's life. Our farm will stop being a milk farm and all the cows are moving. Already now most of the cows have got a new home and the rest will most likely move to their new farms by the end of this month. 

It's going to be strange to me even though I haven't lived there since ages. But it has been my home, it is still and the cows have always been there. Cows have been funny hairy friends with the big tongue. Our cows have always been like pets or almost like family members. When I was child I remember that I was counting that in our family we had something like 30+ women (my mother, sister and me plus all the cows) and two men (my father and my brother). There are so many stories with the cows - happy ones and sad ones. 

But having cows nowadays is so hard work. Especially, if you do it alone. My mother has been keeping the farm with my brother 's big help and now the time is up, there isn't much more energy left anymore. I'm going to miss the cows, but this way it's going to be easier for everyone.  

A cow is always going to be my own totem animal. 

Short visit, but oh so much things to do

The wedding, a new born baby, friends and family. Plus an non-planned trip to Belgium and The Netherlands. The visits to France are never too boring nor for sleeping nor resting, I should know that already.

Party

Yesterday we were celebrating my brother's and his two friends' graduations as master of science of engineering. It was a big party with their 60 closest friends on our island. Guys (and mothers) had seen so much effort to make this event perfect. Evening was filled with food, speeches, singing, drinking, sauna and happy people. We even had the toasts on the ferry in the middle of the lake. 

The guys made themselves a tent sauna and it was hot all night long after the dinner - it was a success. Today in the morning here and there woke up plenty of tired but happy people. Maybe there should be more often parties like this! 

When the sun is shining one wont sleep

Last weekend was probably the hottest for this summer. Even the big rocks started to get warm. My sister and her boyfriend were visiting us from Cambridge. Such a shame that the weekend went so fast. Could have great to spend more time chatting and wondering around.

On Saturday evening, with the setting sun and the flaming sky, it was wonderful to dance our friends' wedding. All the best A&J!

When I saw my pictures from my holidays in UK and France, I totally understand why I got some weight. We've done nothing else but eat and drink well! I blame the bad weather, the eating was the only thing we could do with our people. :)There happened to be few birthday celebrations, new baby coming and so on, so we had a good reasons to enjoy. 

Now back to eating salad, please.
